Always Cake

I’ve been making cakes for little Lucy, the daughter of a former co-worker, for years now. While I have not been making as many cakes the past few years, Lucy’s cakes have always been fun for me. They are always girly and an opportunity to add extra sparkles, and I do love sparkles. This year Lucy had a 3 layer cake with american buttercream (2 layers of vanilla and 1 chocolate). Simple and delicious if you ask me. What was certainly fun this time was creating a custom blend of sprinkles at my local baking store’s sprinkle bar. It is just an aisle of sprinkles that you get pick from to create your own blend in a little cup. Super affordable at $3.95 and super fun!

I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about the skills I have, cakes, quilts, selling goods and much more. Social distancing and staying safe at home really gives you extra time to think… So, if you have a skill you are good at I’m sure you have heard “Have you considered selling that?” or “Have you considered starting a business doing ___________________?” I think there is something to be said for hobbies that we can be pretty good at, and just leave it there. Just because you are good at something, does not mean you have to start a business around it! I’ll forever do my best to make cakes for friends and family when they ask, but I’m not making business cards, and promoting myself because this isn’t a path I want to go down. You can be good at something, and that’s that.

Is there a hobby or skill you do well? Do you want to start a business around it, or keep it a just for fun skill?
