2020 Goals || Mid-year Check In

I think we can all agree, WTF 2020? July is when I like to revisit our yearly goals, see where we lie with progress. Our ability to do several of these items was hindered by staying home safe and shipping costs, since some of the stores we needed were closed. And like always, this list changes… because we realize that we have other needs or something comes up. New comments on the original post are in bold!

Home

  • Playroom / Sewing room- why yes, this was on the list last year and didn’t get done. It is happening this year.

    • Paint walls - Done

    • Paint ceiling - Done

    • Paint trim - Done

    • Install new floors (and subfloor) - Done

    • Built-in desk - We are still deciding how to build this, we need a few pieces from Ikea and the shipping on them is bonkers expensive so we will see what happens there.

    • Furniture + storage - We bought a rug, borrowed a couch, and I moved a few pieces in from other areas. I’m still working on actually organizing it, but it is a decent start.

    • New lights - Done

      Overall the playroom / sewing room is in a decent place considering where we started with a yellow room and nasty green carpet. We are just working on the desk + toy storage trying to organize it all to function the best it can for our family.

  • Bathroom (downstairs) - this was the first project we did when we bought our house. It has a leak in the ceiling that needs fixed, and it is off the playroom so we are installing the new flooring in there as well.

    • Demo! - Done

    • Fix ceiling - Done

    • Paint - Done

    • New flooring - Done

    • Re-install vanity - Done

    • New toilet - Done

      I still need to add fabric to the bottom of the shower curtain to make it longer and hide that the shower is still cream colored, then the bathroom is done (for now, are rooms ever actually done?)

  • Nursery - Our sweet baby girl coming in July needs a room. I’d love to get it done before she is born… and not 4 months after like Theo’s room. She’ll be bunking with us for the first 4 - ? months but I’d still like to have a space ready for her.

    • Paint closet - Not started

    • Install closet organization - Not started

    • Paint room - Done

    • New rug - Done

    • Curtains - She’s sleeping in our room for now, so I still have time to figure this one out.

    • Paint dresser - Done

    • New light - I have it picked out, we just put a halt on shopping once we were all home during covid

    • Decorate! (I feel like this is such a long list…) - Not even started

  • Outdoor Playset - the main reason for moving the garden boxes last year was to make room for an play area for kids. We’ll likely just buy one you assemble yourself, but I can’t wait to get it done for Theo to play on all summer. - Done, and boy oh boy does Theo love it. Kid loves to be pushed “sooooo high” on the swings.

  • Patio Steps - We’ve had a door with a steep drop-off for a few years now, and it is time we get it fixed, so Theo can run down those steps to get to his new play set. - Not even started we are still deciding how to design them, and if we are going to expand the concrete patio.

  • Kitchen - maybe…. last year we had plans for a big makeover in the kitchen that we never got around to. This year if we get it all painted (ceiling, trim and walls) I’d call it a win.

    We have not even started, and this is still a maybe… we also need to buy me a new car, which will take precedence over any home projects.

    New Items - Stuff not on the original list.

  • Theo’s big boy bed! Kid needed a place to sleep, he was ready to move and we were ready to have the crib for sister. Paul built this thing from scratch, and it is amazing.

  • Play table for Theo

  • Kitchen helper stool
